Re: All the binky data within Max ???
Does anybody know, if the binky toy is an app build out of a Max/MSP-patch ? (it looks like) If so, could someone tell me what kind of HiPass-Filter-External or -abstraction was used in the binky toy to "combat low frequency œrumble” being introduced by your turntable or the way you are thrashing t...

Re: msPinky-Vinyl -POS and VEL
Could anybody tell me whatïs the difference between the ms Pinky -Vinyl - generations (gen1, gen2 gen3) ? Did the records improve somehow ? Whatïs the difference for Max/MSP ? In other words: is it worth ordering the new generations, when still using "gen1" ? And one other question on msPinky+Max/M...

Re: A question of KHz
Does the sampling rate of the audio interface have an effect on Ms. Pinky? It strikes me as a better idea to run at 192KHz (rather than 96KHz) therefore giving the computer more data in the stream so it can more accurately map your turntable movements? Is this correct? Would I definately need a 4 o...

Newly compiled code libraries
I've posted a new version of the SDK on the downloads page. It now includes support for Gen3 Vinyl, and I've double-checked to make sure it's working correctly. In order to ensure proper MsPinky vinyl control support, all developers should download the latest version of the SDK. I've tried to make i...

Actually a Tiger Problem
I believe this problem (program won't start) actually has a lot more to do with Tiger than with the Mac Mini. Could you please email me the crash log? This should be found in YourUserName/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/ and should be called something like BinkyToy_XXX_XX.crash.log and/or Maxi-Patch_XXX_...

the RPM rocks
I have the RME RPM and have been using it quite a lot for over a year now. The sound quality is unparalleled, latency is super low, and the convenience of having the phono preamps built-in makes it the perfect audio converter for MsPinky. It does seem a bit pricey for what you're getting, though. An...

Maxi-Patch AO/AV/OSX version 3.5.1: Record a QT Movie
Maxi-Patch version 3.5.1 (OSX/WinXP) is now ready for download. The main new feature is that under the "MsPinky & Me" pulldown menu, you now see an item "Video Output and Recording". Select that item and a window pops up in which you can make settings for the output video display(same as before)-- b...

Several things to check
0) First of all, I must apologize. I included the wrong library when making the build of Maxi-Patch 3.5 for OSX that was on the downloads page. I've made a new build and uploaded it now. Please download Maxi-Patch 3.5 for OSX again.... Sorry! 1) The first thing to check in your setup is the input le...

What version of Maxi-Patch are you using? You can find this either in the top/center of the main window, or under the "About Maxi-Patch" pulldown..

but what about the position information (absolute mode)?
I certainly see the intrigue of being able to do this. The only problem is that in absolute mode scratching, the position information will become useless if there is this multiplicator on the velocity signal. This is because position is the integral of velocity over time. But if you're changing the ...

just send the msec_time or file_time
Thank you for that post, Achim. I am very excited to see your developments!! I would suggest you not bother to send the postion signal to your Java UI. Just send the output from MPFS~ that you get from either "query msec_time" or "query file_time". Then you can calculate the remaining time inside yo...

very interesting!
Hi Achim- Your project sounds very intriguing. I have many questions: 1) Are you not using Max/MSP? It sounds like you may be using jMax? If you're using jMax, are the MsPinky externals compatible? 2) For the playback of your audio files, are you using either the MPFS~ or the MPTCFS~ object? If so, ...

BinkyToy 2.3.1 Uploaded 04/24/05 -- Some Bug Fixes
I've just uploaded a new version (2.3.1) of BinkyToy G3/G4 for OSX. In this version there are no new visible features, but some important bug fixes. 1) Many more types of .WAV files can now be played than before. The header information inside .WAV files can vary a lot, depending on the program that ...

500 MHz G4 Pbk
I actually did most of the early MsPinky development on a 500 MHz G3 Pismo Powerbook (black plastic) which I still use from time to time. It will run BinkyToy no problem, but as Suburban notes, you'll need to excercise some caution when spinning .MP3 files because sometimes on a rapid backspin you m...

You can use the digital outs from your TT's
As long as your sound card (or computer) has SPDIF inputs then you should have no trouble at all using the digital outs from your turntables to drive the MsPinky software running on your computer. I actually used to have a Stanton Str8-100 turntable with digital outs. I used the SPDIF input on the M...
