Onkyo MSE-U33HB....yes....no....maybe?

Post by axiomjunglist » Tue Nov 15, 2005 7:09 pm

I'm impressed with the Ms.Pinky setup, however, I want to know if I can make use of a Onkyo MSE-U33HB USB audio device I have.

Onkyo MSE-U33HB USB

Specs: One Line IN (RCA Stereo), One Line OUT (RCA Stereo), USB 1.0 UP, USB 1.0 Down (3). Plus it has a line level adjustment knob.

So, my theory goes: Get two Y adapters from Radio Shack (dual RCA female to RCA male). Plug both left RCA's from both turntables into one Y adapter, and both right RCA's into the other adapter. Plug the male ends of each into corresponding left and right RCA on the Onkyo device and plug the Onkyo into my iBook. I'll then use the output RCA on the Onkyo to connect to my mixer using two more Y adapters in the same configuration as the input.

Radiosnack Y adapter:

The iBook has no problem using the Onkyo as a source device (for both input and output), as it shows up in System Prefences and almost any app I've ever used.

I even made a small diagram for all this...have a peep

Think this will work w/ Ms.Pinky?

Only two channels of I/O is not enough for (2) Turntables

If you want to use (2) Turntables with Ms Pinky, you really do need an audio input device with at least (4) channels of input. That's all there is to that. Please refer to the Physical Setup page:

Furthermore, if you want to be able to mix the outputs from two virtual decks using your DJ mixer, you need an audio device that has at least (4) channels of audio output.

The diagram that you have made will not work at all the way you intend it to work.

That is why I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you ditch this Onkyo-whatever 2x2 audio device and get yourself a nice brand-new Ego Systems U46DJ. Ms Pinky will be very happy and you'll have lots of fun together.
