Only in "relative" mode

Post by dlpinkstah » Mon Nov 06, 2006 7:17 pm

The Ms Pinky Gen 5 CD control signal can be used with the Torq app, but only in "relative" mode. The Ms Pinky CD control signal is the same as the Torq CD control signal, but all the digital values are scrambled. Since in "relative" mode the software only calculates direction and velocity of playback, this scrambling does not have any effect.

So if you want to actually use the absolute position information (absolute mode) with a CD scratcher in Torq, you'll have to get the Torq control CDs. We definitely will not be distributing that control signal as a download because it is copyrighted material, licensed to M-Audio.

hi everyone! good morning dlpinkstah!

so i am seriously thinking about the torque/conektiv bundle, since i just switched back to mac (intel) and the U46DJ makes the system crash ALL the time, rrrghs. totally unreliable, even worse than it was in my pc system.

but i have some concerns- it is a usb 1.1 interface after all, and the build quality... did not have it in my hands, but it looks like a pretty unsteardy piece of shitty plastic to me. But in germany they sell it with a three year warranty, maybe that is good enough.

And- how is the overall sound quality? Nobody mentioned anything regarding that...

The big up is that it supports the pinky vinyls, and also that torque works as a rewire app.

So, i hope all is good over there- i am in Germany these days.

Have a sweet day everyone, and i am curious to hear a little more about the system.

All the best, glitterbug

sound quality

Post by mg75 » Mon Apr 09, 2007 11:11 pm

On the same subject...

How is the Conectiv sound quality?
Can I use my MOTU Ultralite together using Agregate Device in OS X?

I basically want to play real vinyl and ms. pinky using my analog dj mixer but want the best possible sound quality coming from my digital files.

thanks!

I personally think the Conectiv sound quality is great, especially at that price. There was an issue with a nasty buzzing sound in Channel 4 output, but M-Audio has fixed that problem. Plus, whenever you buy Conectiv, you get the Torq application for FREE!

You could certainly use your MOTU Ultralite, but it wouldn't be nearly as convenient to set up because you'd also need to get some phono preamps to drive the MOTU's line-level inputs...

Another nice feature of the Conectiv is that it makes mixing normal music vinyl into your digital set very easy. Simply turn one of those big knobs on the front to the left to mix in the direct signal from your turntable. When you want to go back to using the digital vinyl, just turn the knob back all the way to the right.

I can really appreciate the features of Conectiv... Especially playing regular vinyl through it.
But did anyone ever sense an audio quality difference between Conectiv and lets say MOTU or other audio interfaces?

And... is there a difference between hooking your tables directly to a high quality mixer or to Conectiv and then to the mixer.

I play vinyl and high quality 24 bit Wave files only. Sound quality is very important for me.

Thanks!

I think the connectiv sounds pretty good in the bedroom, even when banging it on a mid size mobile sound system. The problem in sound quality presents itself when you are playing on excellent quality sound systems and trying to mix from your vinyl/CD into the Connectiv. The difference in sound quality on the dancfloor is pretty obvious - a flat, thin sound that gets worse the more you add EQ. Even if you are using 24bit files ripped from vinyl it will not cure crap DA converters. Sounding good aint cheap - get the RME BPM.

And Richie Hawtin uses Serato which is supposed to have pretty bad sound quality on some of the world's best systems.

Go figure.

Torque & ALL NEW PROAUDIO CABLES AS WELL.

M-AUDIO AND THE "NICE IDEA, SHAME ABOUT THE DRIVERS" SAGA CONTINUES:

Sraight out the box, no net access to update my drivers so take note M-AUDIO!!
Been at it 4 hours now, need a break, nice diagram on the inside of the
Vinyl cover, a mirror realy helps setting your wires up correctly as M-Audio put all
the INPUT OUTPUT lettering on the underside of where the cables go making them very
hard to see and easy to make mistakes, especialy in club conditions,
put them above the connectors in Mk2 please.
After many problems and scratching my head instead of scratching my samples,
I have found these problems using Torque, it's my birthday tommorow and I have a radio
show to present and I know I wouldn't be having these problems had I got Serato! :(

PROBLEM 1
Whistling, whinning tones coming out of both speakers!? and the headphones.
I finaly got deck One working & scratching but still making whinning noise! :(
I read in MsPinky Forums new drivers solves this, so I need to make a trip to the
netcafe with my memory stik and get new drivers and new copy of Torque!.
No where in the manual/pdf dose it say when using your own mixer,
connect the outputs from Conectiv to the "Line-In" inputs on your Mixer (it should),
as it makes a horrible distorted noise if you put them in the "phonos", well it did to me,
then I tried the Line-ins, managed to sort the levels ok althought the high pitch whinning and fuzzy noises
continue.
I found it impossible to just highlight a track and hit delete in any of the panes or windows,
or simply right-button cut track would be nice.
Torques built in CrossFader,Split,PFL buttons do not work at all for me using my own mixer.
I guess this just works when mixing without your own mixer mode and according driver settings?

PROBLEM 2
I can hear Deck 2 or B in my headphones cue (which are connected to contectiv)
and I can manipultae the vinyl and see the track in the window view but it
just does not play out of Output 3-4 when I use my crossfader on my mixer :(
Deck 2 plays out of Output 1-2 as a test so the leads are ok,
but obviously i cant use the crossfader!.
hope I can fix this fast or its all going back, gutted again with M-AUDIO!

Looking at my specs you will notice I have alot of different M-AUDIO drivers..
In Audio Preferences i have everything setup as the PDF exlaines for external mixer:
DECK-A ANALOGUE-IN CHANNEL 1-2 , DECK B ANALOGUE-IN CHANNEL 3-4, and the same with the outputs
any help here would be greatly appreciated. cheers. Subzero Brighton.

I've also been trying to update my Audiophile Firewire Drivers via M-AUDIO,
as the new ones remove the old ones but the old drivers just reappear everytime! :/
got to call some number now for UK support
but dont have a phone at home or internet. so even if I skype call from the netcafe
I wont be infront of my Laptop to sort the problem. ah well.

whining sound in Channel 4 out

Post by dlpinkstah » Thu May 03, 2007 5:59 am

There was a bad batch of Conectivs that came out some months ago here in the US that had a hardware bug which caused a nasty whining, static-like sound in Channel 4 out. Perhaps the unit you have also has this problem. If so, all you have to do is return it to the dealer and M-Audio will replace it with a fixed unit. Before jumping to this conclusion, however, it'll be best if you contact M-Audio tech support with your problem description.

Conectiv-Torq Vestax-Mixer Noise / Crashes / kontakt.

Post by ka05 » Thu May 03, 2007 12:53 pm

Thanks dlpinkstah ! since then i have contacted M-Audio they have emailed me the stock answer, I have there number if things get worse..
solved 90% of the problems check here

TECHNICS 1200 MK2 STANTON NEEDLES/CARTS

ALL NEW PROAUDIO CABLES.
GROUND LOOP ISOLATOR from www.maplin.co.uk
LATEST DRIVERS - LATEST TORQ.

NEW USERS:
1. Make sure you get the latest driver & the latest Torq m-audio.com
2. You must remember to NEVER install the supplied software/drivers
for any M-AUDIO Product. From experience better to get the music shop
to download the latest drivers and burn them to a disk for you if you
cant get online. Will save you 6 hours of pulling out your hair.

USING A LAPTOP?? Getting low humming CPU fuzzy noise?
Then use a "GROUND LOOP ISOLATOR" from
www.MAPLIN.CO.UK no link sorry can't surf here. about £10.
Put it inline from your own DJmixers OUT that runs to the
AMP or Mixing Desk, it provides 2x Male Phonos that goto the
Isolator then onto 2x female phonos.stops alot of the CPU noise!
It's not M-Audios fault its a laptop thing.

I WAS still getting that High Pitch Whinning Noise though!
and it only disapears when I make sure both MIX A n B knobs
are turned up FULL with the switches set to Phono obviously.
I am still worried I may be getting some bleed through
of the sinewave comeing off the vinyl?? its all working!
yes it's just like mixing vinyl! I'm mixing my own tunes off
a fast hard drive and i'm loading jingles yes! and switchin back
to tunes for about 25 minutes then CRASH!!! TORQ just dissapeared!
could not restart it either!, had to REBOOT!!
I imagined being in front of 2 thousand people in a hot club,
not good!! Getting more Ram as they recommend 1GB so i will get 2GB.
One little gripe is why didn't they have a Mic Switch on the
second Input? it would have only cost another 5p-10p extra
per unit. wonder if it can be modded with a three way switch?
SOrting out this crashing problem is more important atm.

WHY DOSN'T TORQ REMEMBER MY SETTINGS!!!??? please fix this M-AUDIO!
will snapshot fix this?

Kontakt (native instruments) and Torq (M-Audio) Just dont work together
yet, they both hog the same resources i'm guessing.
I ran kontakt got it working, then when I went to run Torq it says "please
connect Conectiv hardware and try again" type of message.
Tried the other way round and kontakt runs but wont see any of the audio
properties.

TORQ so far works with WINAMP, AUDITION (cool edit) , in my tests.
but no midi triggering yet to another sampler soft using M-Audio Axiom 25
USB Keyboard will try using the built in sampler in TORQ if it can load all
my 10 or so jingles and I can trigger them with the keyboard then fine.

I'll report back on the crashes when i've got more ram running,
it's day 2. hope this helps! Subzero. Brighton.
