Quality preamps - not important for Ms. Pinky?

Tell me if I'm on target here. Since the preamp is only amplifying the tracking signals on the records, its not 100% important that I buy the Rolls $50/each preamp. Is there any possible way that a Behringer preamp could suck so bad as to amplify the tracking signal so poorly that it detracts from the strength and clarity of the signal coming from my M44-7's?

Jimmymus-

You're completely on target. The quality of the preamp is of very little importance. As long as it amplifies enough to bring the signal up to line-level, and doesn't distort too much, it'll do fine. Even the least expensive phono preamp on the market should do. The important thing is to make sure the decks are grounded properly so no humm gets injected into the signal.
