Setup:

G4 Powerbook
1.67 GHz
2 GB Ram
OSX Tiger 10.4.11

Totally clean install, no other apps installed apart from the Maxi Patch software. All updates downloaded and installed for OSX.

Maxi Patch Ver: 3.7.1

Dashboard disabled.

So mp3 mixing is great. No problems. Add a video and I get frame rates of 1-7 FPS even when I just play it. Tried it with separate audio as well. Same deal. All audio is playing fine and any situation.

Max Window:
js:error calling function update_indicator
js:Pinky_waveformjs: Javascript InternalError: too much recursion, line 455

This seems to be the most recurring message

In activity monitor its using between 250-340 of my real memory.

Any clues as to whats wrong would be most appreciated.

I have tried mp4, animation, mpeg and photo jpeg@50%, which I have been told is the best to use.

All have roughly the same results

Three things:

1) What are the pixel dimensions of your videos? Using videos with smaller dimensions (like 320 X 240) will give you faster framerates.

2) Use the OpenGL video mixing modes. In the output video mix control panel (top, center) make sure your mix mode is one with the "-GL" suffix. Those mixes are done on your graphics accelerator card and this takes a load off the CPU.

3) make sure the "bri_con_sat" and "zoom/rotate" check-boxes are un-checked (disabled).

Bottom line: the G4 machines are really slow, and there's nothing we can do about that.

OK I ended up deleting the XML file. Massive increase in speed still only hitting 15-18fps. Guess the Powerbook is a little slow, although saying that AVmixer is happy spitting out framerates of up to 30....but doesn't support Gen4. How is this possible???

Thanks
