error metric

maybe this was posted somewhere before. couldn't find it.

while using the maxi patch ao i get a very high metric error (2.5-3.5)
everything is working fine accept that there is a slight constant change in the tt velocity meter. (when stopped unless the cut off is set to about 2.15 i get a drag sound) the vinyl i'm using is brand new and there's no noise coming from the turntable (i checked it with with real vinyl).
anythoughts?

this isn't horrible but it does bother me while using it as a midi controller.

What soundcard are you using? Please post a complete description of all components of your system, and how they're connected, whenever posting a problem report.

a stanton st-150 (which has a unballanced llatter which some records warp on)
into an audio kontrol-1. no phono pre-amp the st has line level out's.
into a compaq 2ghz 3gb ram windows 7 laptop.
everything actually works fine exept for the unstable velocity read which might be due to the shit turntable i'm using.
but the high error makes me a bit worried.

High error metric is a sign of signal problem going into Maxi-Patch. You probably have the gain cranked too high on the soundcard input. The Kontrol-1 should have an input level setting you can adjust. Try turning it down and see if that helps.

nope that's not it. could it be a warped record?
i just noticed some of the recently purchased vinyls (the lighter black ones)
got a little warp to them, probably misshandeled at post offcie.

Warping of the vinyl would not cause high error metric.

The Stanton ST-150 has digital key correction. Make sure that is turned OFF. If it's on, the Ms Pinky control signal is most likely being completely messed up by the key correction.

well switching to a diffrent record reduced it to about 0.4-0.6
intresting thought is, that the pich correction has little affect on the maxi patch

i wonder how's that possible.

It could also be that your needle needs to be replaced. When a needle starts to go bad, it introduces lots of distortion to the signal, and it's intermittent.
