editing the maxi patch

Post by sec-def » Mon Jan 24, 2011 3:36 pm

is there a possibilty to get the max objects of the maxi patch?
i would like to strip it down a bit so it would a stand alone midi driver.
(two decks with only the midi clock and pitch tabs).
that way i could have the turntables serve as decks inside ableton using the vst\m4l app.
and as a 14bit\clock out midi controller as well. this will solve some dublicity problems some of us are having. (the need for multiple controllers to control both thee daw and the ms pinky for instance.)
and save some juice for more fluid work.

my original idea was to integrate the m4l app with some other patch but this is somewhat limited to 128 steps. from what i understand (correct me if i'm wrong) you can't generate pitch bend messages inside live and to use it
as a midi controller.

All the component patches that comprise the Maxi-Patch are already there for you in the downloads. And all the necessary external objects as well. Check the archives "MaxMSP_OSX" or "MaxMSPWinXP". Please edit to your liking...

i'm very new to max\msp. so i need some more directions.
can i edit this patch in the max environment like i would to a m4l patch?
(i really don't know how to program jack shit outside of the gui of max)
how would i open it it up and such.
bare with me, my only max experience is some basic m4l lessons that come with ableton.

so what do i need to open it up and remove the file players, eq's and such.

First of all you should work through the Max/MSP tutorials from Cycling-'74 so that you have a basic understanding of Max. There is no getting around that. You gotta do it.

Then open the "MsPinky'sMaxi-Patch" Max/MSP patch and under the "File" menu select "Max Menus" so that you can then edit the patch in either presentation or patching mode. The Maxi-Patch contains a bunch of sub-patches that are placed inside "b-patchers". All the component sub-patches are contained in the downloads.

The main Ms Pinky external object at the heart of Maxi-Patch is called "mptcfs_sa~". In the downloads there is a patch called "MsPinky_MPTCFS" which shows all the inputs/outputs for this object, and all the commands it responds to. The patch called "FileScratchPatch_MPTCFS" is the sub-patch within Maxi-Patch that uses the mptcfs_sa~ object to do vinyl/CD-controlled audio file scratching.

i need some numeric information regarding the position.
i'm looking to use both the marker sticker location and the needle location.
meaning both where the sticker is pointing AND where the needle is in reference to the spindle.
so i need to know how many "spot" are they on one turn-around of the record.
it allso seems that the records are divided into 13 "tracks" is that true?
if so i would like to know how many spots are on each track so i could use that as well.

my idea is basically a four dimension control through the vinyl.
i'll start out with m4l then see if i can translate it to msp.
dimensions being
pitch.
volume. (using the volume coming to control a synth volume will give plenty of dynamics )
location of the marker (sort of a cc change) in clock lingo.
location of the needle from the outer ring to center (i thought about making this into program change but i will start by using cc as well)
the last parameter i would like to be active only when needle dropped.
so for instance it can control the chain selector (in ableton) so that
i could needle drop into a different sound.

The visible "tracks" you see are just indications of 1-minute intervals.

The position values range from (0.0 ... 65535) on Side "A", and from (65536 ... 131071) on Side "B". This works out to 86.1328125 position values per second of playback at a nominal 33-1/3 rpm, or 155.0390625 position stamps per rotation of the vinyl.
