Maxi-Patch AO/AV/OSX version 3.5.1: Record a QT Movie

Maxi-Patch version 3.5.1 (OSX/WinXP) is now ready for download.

The main new feature is that under the "MsPinky & Me" pulldown menu, you now see an item "Video Output and Recording". Select that item and a window pops up in which you can make settings for the output video display(same as before)-- but you can now also record the output video mix to a QuickTime file in one of 36 different formats.

1) Drag a folder where you want to store your QuickTime recordings into the drop region shown.

2) Enter the name of the movie you want to create. PRESS ENTER.

3) Select the codec, the quality, and the FPS (frames per second) settings you want.

4) If you select "realtime internal clock", the movie you create will have a FPS that is equal to whatever the effective FPS of the output mix is in Maxi-Patch. Note that due to processor speed constraints this is usually less than the FPS you specifiy in this control panel! If you un-select "realtime internal clock" your movie will be created with the exact FPS setting you specify-- however it will only have as many frames as your processor can manage to feed it during the time the recording is made. You'll want to try recording movies with and without "realtime internal clock" to get a feel for which one you prefer.

5) The dimensions of the recorded movie will be the same as the dimensions of the video output window. If you want to create a movie which is larger than the actual dimensions of your video clips that you are mixing, then you may want to select "interpolation" to smoothe things out a bit. Keep in mind, though, that this eats up a bit more CPU.

6) Unfortunately, in this version, sound is not recorded to the QT movie. We're working on that!

BUG FIX #1: version 3.5.1 includes a fix for a bug that caused some problems when crossfading between two movies if their dimensions were different. It should now crossfade smoothly between any two sizes of movie.

BUG FIX #2: versions 3.5.1 also fixes a bug with the "Cosmetic Preferences" which caused the main window background color to not follow the curved corners of the various display regions when corners were set to curve values greater than zero. You can now set curve values to whatever you want and the color of the main window background will follow smoothly all the way around.

Hope you have fun recording your video mixes -- even though for now they will be "silent movies" (Hey- we have to take it one step at a time, right??)

Hello, is it now possible to record the sound from Maxi to your QT movies?

I have been trying all day to work it out myself but have had no luck.

Thanks
