PC issue on 3.6

Post by VideoScratch » Thu Feb 02, 2006 11:54 pm

hi pinkstah !

it's a long time since i've bothered you with my bugz.

still on windows XP Home SP2, i've done the latest update on my two PC's videocards before installing the new Maxi-Patch.

i've got a Nvidia GeForce4 488, 64 Mo DDR-RAM 128 bits, AGP 8x on the laptop and a intel 915G integrated on the motherboard on the desktop.

they both support open GL 2.0 with the updates.

i've got this in the status window :

jit.gl.context:using software renderer

jit.gl.context:wgl create context failed -2000

error.jit.window:couldn't build GL context

error:ob3d_draw_begin:no context

jit.gl.render:building GL on window "maxi patch"...

jit.gl.context:using software renderer

jit.gl.context: set pixel format failed -87

error.jit.window:couldn't build GL context

error.jit.window:couldn't make open GL on window "maxi patch"

...and video is still buggish (you may have gessed) !

it seems that's a problem with jitter ?

i'm going to install XP pro instead of Home and if it still don't work, i'm gonna try mixvibes pro 6 with video or buy a Mac !!!

By the way, do you remember the pinky pitch feature we talked about ?

have you tried to do it ? my friends and me still find this feature really necessary...

Jitter problems with your video card

Post by dlpinkstah » Fri Feb 03, 2006 6:54 am

This is a problem with the latest version of Jitter, which we are unfortunately tied to using because of the 3-D OpenGL stuff....

Anyway-- one possible solution is to make sure that you have your monitor set to operate in 32-bit color mode... if it's in 16-bit color mode it will make Jitter malfunction for sure.

Set your monitor to 32-bit color mode and let me know...

Good luck.

i set the colors to 32bit mode in my videocard main settings and also in the open GL settings ("always 32 bits per pixel").

on my laptop, the result is :

jit.gl.render : building GL on window "maxi-patch"...

error.jit.gl.shader:graphics hardware is not capable of running CG fragment programs

error.jit.shader:CG not supported for current hardware config

error.jit.shader:unable to load program !

error.jit.shader:unable to find usable language implementation

error.jit.shader:error loading shader !

jit.gl.render:building GL on window "maxi-patch"...

error.jit.gl.render:couldn't make open GL on window "maxi-patch"...

do you think the problem is Jitter, or simply that my laptop's videocard is too weak to handle it ?

do you think that installing XP pro instead of Home could solve the problem ?

Thanks....

P.S: when do you think i can jam with my friends playing jazz using the pinkypitch feature ?

Custom shaders not supported by your laptop's video card

Post by dlpinkstah » Sat Feb 04, 2006 5:39 pm

I don't think the problem is Jitter. The problem is that your laptop's video card does not support Custom Shaders of OpenGL. The Custom Shaders are a new feature in OpenGL and not every video card will support them. Especially problematic is the PC laptop situation because there are so many hundreds of different manufacturers of video cards, motherboards, etc. etc. etc. and many of them DO NOT conform to the strict OpenGL standards, even if they claim to conform.

One thing you might try is to get a "modified" driver for your video card:

http://www.omegadrivers.com/

I will also pass your results on to the programmers who are creating Jitter.

I don't think upgrading to WinXP Pro will help this situation. It's purely becuase of your video card.

geForce 5200 series or higher

Post by dlpinkstah » Sat Feb 04, 2006 8:43 pm

After some checking, I think you will have to upgrade your graphics card to be a geForce 5200 series or higher if you want to use 3.6. Sorry.. we can't backtrack just to support old hardware

ok...

i think i'm gonna get a macbook pro (or a i-mac G5). even if it's a huge amount of $$$. we need pinky to run properly !

as i told you before, we've done a video-turntablism show w/ 4 dj's at the biennale of contemporary art in lyon (one of the biggest in europe).

after that, we have been selected to be "in residence", that mean we have a venue (stage) for two weeks w/ technicians, video, sound... to set up a show for a tour.

our first show will be at the "nuits sonores" festival (one of the biggest electronic music festival in europe)

http://www.nuits-sonores.com/

We would really appreciate if you can implement that pinky pitch feature, because then we don't have to buy TTX or QFO turntables...

and also i think that's a strong argument to promote this software to turntablists...

thanks a lot

Hi, pinkstah !

some good news...

i finally ended up buying a graphic card w/ ATI 1300 pro chipset, for my desktop (P4 3Ghz, 1Go Ram) and it runs perfectly FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yhurgh !

By the way, have you take a look to the link on my last post ?

(sorry this wasn't on the namm website, but i get to throught it)

do you think you can implement a scale mode like pitch on Pinky ?

(an arabian scale would be great !!!)

i mean a traditionnal "glissendo" pitch, and a mode with steps (semi tones to semi tones)

What's the pitch control fonction in the midi set up ?

can we use it in addition to the vinyl mode ?

Thanx a lot !!!!
