There are several different ways to scratch the video with Maxi-Patch. These are defined by the four settings in the little popup menu inside the QT movie player regions:
1) Play free: the movie plays without turntable control.
2) Sync vinyl position: In this mode, the scratch response with the vinyl should be much quicker. The drawback is that you won't be able to play the original soundtrack of the movie as it plays.... but don't worry, read on...
3) Synch to audio file: This is the preferred mode for very low-latency QT movie scratching. In this case, the QT movie follows the playback of the audio file that is loaded into the audio file player just below the QT movie player.
Due to some unfortunate limitations of QuickTime (as created by Apple and Max/MSP/Jitter (created by Cycling-'74), the only way to get really clean smooth sound when scratching a QuickTime movie using Max/MSP/Jitter and/or Maxi-Patch is to export the movie's soundtrack to an audio file in either .WAV, .AIFF, or .MP3 format. Then in Maxi-Patch, load the QuickTime movie, select "synch to audio file" from the popup menu inside the QT movie player region, and set the "vol" control value to 0.0. Then load the corresponding audio file into the audio file player directly below the QT movie player. Now, when you play the audio file under control of your Ms Pinky vinyl, it automatically causes the movie to play in synch with the sound. I realize this is a bit of a nuisance, but for now we'll just have to live with it.
NOTE: Sometimes you also have to hit the stop button "||" in the QT movie player a second time after selecting "synch to audio file" or "sync vinyl position" in order for it to work right.
