Preference file in XP

I know there is an answer somewhere on this forum for where the preference file is in XP but I was trying to find the post again and couldn't. This would help me and any other XP users if some could remind me where to go to see/delete those files. Thanks.

Of course there´s also the maxi-patch.xml preferences file which is stored in the same folder with the application. It contains many other prefs which determing a lot of settings in the program. And it´s xml so you can open with a text editor and read it, even edit it yourself.... but be careful...
