Maxi-Patch and Video Scratching Questions

Post by drunksounds » Sat Mar 29, 2008 1:55 am

How smooth is the video jogging (scratching) in Maxi-Patch? Does it skip alot of frames if you back spin fast or does it keep up? How about the audio section performance, would you compare it to Torq or Binky Toy? Is it good enough to scratch or beat match? Can you set the curve on the Video fader?
Thanks in advance.

That will depend a lot on how fast your computer is and how good your graphics card is. It also depends on the format of the video files you're scratching. If you keep it at 320x240 PHOTO-JPEG movs, and you have a fast computer, then video scratching will be impressive. Otherwise, it may be kinda chunky

match?

Yes, as long as you have an adequate soundcard. The audio section of Maxi-Patch is pretty much the same code as in BinkyToy, and is very similar to Torq for audio scratching as well. Certainly adequate to give very realistic "virtual vinyl" experience.

You can do several different kinds of video crossfades including standard additive crossfade, chroma-keyed crossfade, alpha-keyed crossfade, and an assortment of 37 different mathematical functions for combining the two video sources. The video crossfader in Maxi-Patch can be mapped to a MIDI controller for easiest use.
