Hi...
My name is Mudo not Mate...
a preamplifier usually didn't have any pot to change the output, they normalize the phono to line.
Usually all sound cards have a pot to control de input or instead of this, they have a virtual mixer to control this internally...
What m-audio firewire?

hi mudo,(not mate)
cheers for the reply, i cant seem to lower the actual volume in the virtual mixer. for sum reason the levels stay the same. I can lower the actual volume on the input via the virtual mixer . ie it lowers on the speakers but the actual level input wont lower down. i am using the m-audio firewire audiophile. its like normaly on a cheap sound card if you lower the record volume in windows the volume will be lower but there is no record volume on the audiophile.
sorry if i sound confusing. its just frustrating,
the sound card has a 1 stereo input(2 mono's) and also 1 spdif input./ 2 stereo outputs and 1 spdif output.
cheers ,
Dan.

WHERES THE BASE KNOB?

I said to you, not a preamp problem...
the preamps do its works properly but your soundcard don't do it.
I suggest to you to change the soundcard, you are having some troubles with this one (and I'm not sure that you will use it for 2 decks) and the set up is still difficult to add some problems with a cheaper useless soundcard.
Sell this one and buy something like maya or conectiv
